THE CLIENT
One in five children in California lives in poverty. End Child Poverty in California (ECPCA) is a campaign which supports public policy, collaborates with lawmakers, and organizes community efforts to reduce child poverty in California.
In 2017, ECPCA sponsored AB 1520 (aka the Lifting Children and Families Out of Poverty Act). Through grassroots activism, phone calls, tweets, and signature gathering, ECPCA’s committed supporters made this happen, without one dissenting vote in the CA State Legislature. Social media was a big factor in getting the word out.
THE MEMO
Create graphics for social media and newsletter campaigns, and layout copy in fact sheets for print and web, all while preserving the nonprofit’s brand.
THE WORK
I created social media graphics that both preserved the brand (e.g. Facebook cover photos) and complemented it (e.g. to share an idea in the news feed). Due to the time-sensitive nature of the political work, this was often to a fast deadline.
THE CHALLENGE
Copyfitting text on candid photos: making the text easy to read against a busy background while preserving the emotion of the photo.
